Info: Indiana Republican Governor Mitch Daniels talks about his new book, as well as state and national politics, and his decision to not run for president in the 2012 election. In addition, Governor Daniels takes questions from students on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He states that the country’s exploding national debt could have disastrous consequences if not addressed soon. Daniels suggests that government spending must be dramatically cut. He cites examples from his own state where efficiencies in management, coupled with cuts in spending, produced a billion dollar budget surplus. The number one mission for American government right now should be to create growth in the private sector and not raise taxes, he argues. Daniels speaks of what went into his decision not to seek higher elected office this year. He also recounts stories associated with staying overnight at over 100 different “Hoosier” homes throughout his term.
