PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
· Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), 1995-1999. Appointed by President Clinton.
· At NRC she formed the International Nuclear Regulators Association (INRA) in 1997, and was the group’s first chairman.
· While at the NRC, Dr. Jackson represented the United States as a delegate to the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy
· Professor of physics at Rutgers University, from 1991 to 1995
· Conducted research in theoretical physics, solid state and quantum physics, and optical physics at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey 1976- 1991.

FIRSTS:
· First African-American woman to receive a doctorate from M.I.T.
· One of the first African-American women to receive a doctorate in physics in the U.S.
· First African-American Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

PERSONAL:
She is married to Dr. Morris A. Washington, also a physicist. They have one son, Alan, a graduate of Dartmouth College.
